Giovanni Domenic “John” Barilaro was born on 14 November 1971 in Queanbeyan to immigrant parents from Calabria, Italy. He lost his father, Domenico, in early 2020.

John Barilaro had managed Ryleho, a business that manufactures energy-efficient timber windows and doors before venturing into politics. He has been the Minister for Regional New South Wales, Industry and Trade in the second Berejiklian ministry since April 2019 and has also served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electoral district of Monaro since 2011.

In October 2021, John Barilaro announced his resignation as Deputy Premier, Leader of the National Party and Member for Monaro. He is married to his longtime partner, Deanna with whom he has three daughters. The family is presently living in Jerrabomberra.
